Well, my office suite needs are quite simple and do not, in any way, justify purchasing the multi-hundred dollar program that is MS Office. It's absurd, the price MS sets for that suite.

So, I use OOo because it is free and because it meets my needs. What I do not have a lot of experience with is how it interacts with MS Office documents. Importing and exporting Word docs or Excel files just isn't something I do a lot of with OOo. So I can't speak all that well about how it does (or does not) work. From what I have done, the formatting has been fine.

I am pondering using Open Office on my new computer, but don't have a lot of experience with it. I assume you recommend it, but would like to know why (other than the setting us free from our Microsoft overlords).
